Rock On

Music is one of Dani's latest obsessions, which has spread somewhat to Brendan and Evan. Dani and Evan have their own mp3 players and Brendan gets jealous sometimes, so occassionally I'll let him use my ipod. Below is the frequent result.

Its just so Dani

She conned me into buying her this hat. She said she NEEDED it. Who was I to argue?

Geez, I'm such a sucker.

The Saga of the Earrings

Emily got her ears peirced in December for her 8th birthday. She was a big brave girl, and only slightly traumatized when the pericer malfunctioned halfway through her ear and had to be coaxed into going the rest of the way through her ear. This little mistake caused the hole to be higher in the front than it was in the back, making it really hard for Em to change her own earrings. After about a month, her ears got infected and we decided to give up. We let them heal and I told Emily we'd try again in a few months. So, this month, for her half birthdaday. I told her we'd get them done again. Two weeks later, she came to me and exclaimed, "If we'd gotten my ears peirced on my half birthday, like you said, I'd be able to take them out by now!!" Ok, not quite, but her point was made. So I took her to get them peirced that very day. Hopefully her luck will be better this time!

Breathing

In case I haven't mentioned it, we are going to a family reunion in Hawaii for Christmas. The kids are all excited and have various activities they are eager to try. One of them is snorkeling. I noticed recently that our village park district has a snorkeling class for kids 5-12, so I told Emily and Dani I'd sign them up. Dani, especially, has been looking forward to it. A couple of days ago I went to sign them up for it and discovered, to my great dismay, that it was only held on Sundays. CRAP! Dani took it pretty well when I told her. No tantrums or tears... her voice just cracked repeatedly as she asked if we could have them switch it to another day. The poor little girl was so disappointed. Later that day, I happened to see kid-sized snorkeling sets at Walgrees -- HALF OFF! I bought a couple to soothe troubled hearts. We took them to the pool yesterday and the girls tried them out. I think a little water was swallowed, but not too terribly much. Hopefully by Christmas they'll be pros!

Evan likes them too

The Great Escape

I just couldn't kill the bunnes. I let them snuggle together in their little nest -- there were 7 of them, by the way, not 5. Went out to check on them on Wednesday and they were gone! It looked like someone had shoveled the nest out. I was shocked! I was even more shocked when I saw them all hiding under the bean plants at the edge of the garden! Everyone came to see them, which, naturally, scared them to death (who wouldn't be scared to see 4 small kids coming to investigate?) and jumped of the garden, but got stuck between the boards that make the raised bed and our net-fence

They ran a couple of laps and then got stuck at the corner. The above looks like just 3 bunnies, but when I loosened the net, FIVE ran for the hills. Hope they'll remember how kind I was to them and not eat my veggies. With my luck, they'll interpret my kindess as an invitation to set up permanant camp in my garden!

Poison Control!

The kids love taking their vitamins. Sometimes a little too much. Evan left the bottle out when he went to distribute the daily doses to everyone. Brendan however, didn't think one was enough. Another one of those turn-your-back-for-a-second moments. I found this:

Luckily, Poison Control said that they've known kids to eat 40 or 50 vitamins with no ill effects, so the 5 that Brenny got down his throat before I caught him just made him super-strong for a day or two.

Best seat in the house

I couldn't give you a good reason, but this is Brendan's favorite seat in the house these days.
Ya gotta be careful -- if you leave the door open and turn your back for half a second, Brendan will set up camp in his favorite spot. And he is not easily persuaded to leave. Hard to blame him though.... its the perfect height for his little legs, nice a cool and easy access to all the snacks you could want!
